　　我不知道别人在童年时有没有过莫名其妙的孤独感和恐惧感，就像自己被囚禁在一个黑暗的空间，虽然有呼吸有脉搏有心跳，但是周围的一切都像是死了一样。你可以看见妈妈在做饭爸爸在看报纸但是灵魂不在了。晚上睡觉的时候坚持要开着灯因为会恐惧当黑暗降临的那一刻，所有的保护都将不存在了。文森特就是如此阴郁的孩子，不过他很幸福的活在自己的世界里。

　　在好莱坞有一个流行的说法，喜欢蒂姆·波顿（TimBurton）的电影的人都是一群孤独的人，因为蒂姆·波顿就是一个生性孤僻的人。因为童年时代的不如意，所以他一生追求怪异、前卫、黑暗的境界，所以他爱死了坏小孩，所以他的每个主角都面无血色，所以他才在内心深处渴望自己变得坏一点，再坏一点，去拍色情片吧，去拍恐怖片吧，别管他妈的什么艺术不艺术，拯救不拯救的了……要命的是，他太有天分，许许多多的好片子等着他去拍，他没空拍烂片，他没有机会变坏 。

　　蒂姆·波顿小时候常常被父母锁在屋子里，后来，又离开父母跟年迈的祖父一起居住。那正是他顽劣的青春期的时候，一个老人明显不是他叛逆的对手。理所当然的，蒂姆·波顿的世界被小人书和恐怖电影包围。和许多孤独的人一样，蒂姆 ·波顿的内心世界丰富多彩，又极度黑暗，就好像当一个头破血流的小孩蘸着自己伤口上的血画出一朵玫瑰，玫瑰的色彩很美，可是也很恐怖。

　　蒂姆 ·伯顿1982年第一部真正意义的作品《文森特》开始，主人公都是清一色的造型——凌乱的头发，黑色的大眼睛，苍白的面容，尖细的嘴型，削尖的下巴，永远是一副阴郁而恐惧的表情（Bige：想想《剪·爱》里的约翰尼·德普）；电影也都是一样的色调，阴冷的底色，艳丽的反差，或妖或魔或鬼或怪的主人公折磨或被折磨在或灵异或怪异或诡异或奇异的世界中，一边是有人心惊胆战的尖叫，另一边却有人幸灾乐祸的大笑……

　　从1990年一举成名的《剪刀手爱德华》，到1994年传记题材的电影《艾德伍德》，到1999年大获好评的《断头谷》，再到2005年的童话作品《查理和巧克力工厂》，双方的合作堪称完美，及至到《骷髅新娘）在蒂姆·伯顿看来，孩子是如同电影中可爱的大小恶魔一样，充满天马行空的想象力，拥有纯洁无瑕的心灵，他们被保护在成人世界的尔虞我诈之外，拥有彼得潘的梦幻岛和永不长大的童话。

　　我们也可以这样理解：蒂姆·伯顿本人就像个孩子一样，总用最真实的眼睛看着这个世界，拒绝着长大，拒绝着同流合污，用他也许不为人理解的匪夷所思的想象，去和只有孩子看得到的鬼鬼怪怪一起，游戏着人间和鬼界。

　　文森特制作于1982年，是一部6分钟长黑白动画片，采用逐格拍摄（stop-motion）技术。影片说的是一个叫文森特的年轻人幻想自己是文森特·普莱斯（Vincent Price，蒂姆·伯顿个人最喜欢的演员，曾参与其多部影片）。影片根据蒂姆·伯顿自己的一首诗创作，该诗由文森特·普莱斯以旁白的形式在影片中朗读出来。以下就是这部短片完整版于中英文对照的旁白。

Vincent Malloy is seven years old,

Could go searching for victims in the London fog.

His thoughts aren't only of ghoulish crime,

He likes to paint and read to pass the time.

One night while reading a gruesome tale,
一天晚上,当他在读一本令人害怕的书的时候

He read a passage that made him turn pale.
其中一章令他恐惧,苍白

Such horrible news he could not survive,

For his beautiful wife had been buried alive.

He dug out her grave to make sure she was dead,

Unaware that her grave was his mother's flower bed.

His mother sent Vincent off to his room,

He knew he'd been banished to the tower of doom.

Where he was sentenced to spend the rest of his life,

Alone with a portrait of his beautiful wife.

While alone and insane, encased in his tomb,

Vincent's mother suddenly burst into the room.

Vincent tried to talk, but he just couldn't speak,

While Vincent backed slowly against the wall.

She spoke from her coffin, and made ghoulish demands.

Every horror in his life that had crept through his dreams,

His voice was soft and very slow,
As he quoted The Raven from Edgar Allen Poe,

"And my soul from out that shadow floating on the floor,
Shall be lifted--Nevermore!"
